Uponyaji Ya Mama
(ooh-pun-YAH - jee / Yah / MAMA)
Swahili for "maternal healing"
Nurturing prenatal & postpartum bodywork guided by your body’s wisdom
Perinatal Intuitive Massage
Milk & Honey Intuitive Massage Therapy is a gentle, nourishing bodywork experience created especially for pregnancy and the postpartum season. Like honey soothing the hive, this session is slow, intentional, and deeply supportive—honoring the physical changes, emotional shifts, and sacred transitions of motherhood. Rather than a fixed routine, each session flows intuitively based on your body’s needs that day—offering comfort, grounding, and restoration for both body and heart. This is care that meets you where you are, whether you are growing life, recovering from birth, or finding your way back to yourself.

Techniques Used
Your session may include a thoughtful blend of the following pregnancy- and postpartum-safe techniques:

Prenatal & Side-Lying Massage for comfort and circulation
Gentle Swedish Massage to ease muscle fatigue and promote relaxation
Slow, supportive deep work (when appropriate) for hips, back, and shoulders
Myofascial release to relieve pelvic, rib, and low-back tension
Lymphatic drainage techniques to support swelling and fluid balance
Craniosacral-inspired stillness for nervous system regulation
Breath-led, intuitive touch to support emotional release and grounding

All techniques are trauma-informed, consent-based, and adapted for each trimester or stage of postpartum healing.

What to Expect During Your Session

-
Your Milk & Honey session begins with a gentle check-in—discussing where you are in your pregnancy or postpartum journey, any discomforts, and how you’re feeling emotionally.
-
You’ll be comfortably positioned with supportive bolsters and pillows, often side-lying or semi-reclined. Sessions move slowly and intentionally, allowing your body to soften, rest, and receive without urgency.
-
Many clients describe this work as calming, cocooning, and deeply reassuring—like being wrapped in warmth and care.
-
After your session, you’ll have time to ground and integrate, with optional aftercare suggestions to help you carry that sweetness into your day.

Common Questions About Massage in Pregnancy and Postpartum
Is massage/bodywork safe in the first trimester?
Yes, when performed by a trained practitioner. I assess each client's needs individually and adjust accordingly.
Can massage/bodywork help with postpartum depression and anxiety?
Massage supports emotional regulation and lowers cortisol levels, which can be helpful alongside other treatments.
Do I need a doctor’s note?
Usually not, but I may request one for high-risk pregnancies or medical conditions. I am happy to coordinate with your care team.
