Did you know the first 7 days of breastfeeding are critical for establishing your milk supply?
Here’s why:
🍼 Your Babee is the Boss
Your babee’s frequent feeding in the first week gives a clear signal to your body that your babee is here and to produce milk. Milk supply is based off of supply and demand. You’ve gone from being the hotel to a full fledged “Breastaurant”. And to keep the “Breastaurant” open you need to take ALOT of orders, honey!! The more your babee nurses, the more milk your body makes!!
⏰ Frequent Feedings Matter
Newborns need to nurse 10 or more in 24!! 24 hours that is. But get this, your newborn can’t tell time and they are hungry when they are hungry. So feed them responsively!! Recognizing your babee’s feeding cues ensures your babee is fed properly while still sending a clear message to your body that your babee is here. These early feeds are nature’s way of telling your body, “Keep it coming!”
🤱 Colostrum is Key
Your body starts making colostrum aka (liquid gold) at 12-14 weeks before transitioning to mature milk around day 3–5. Those colostrum feedings are small but mighty, giving your babee essential nutrients and prepping your body for long-term milk production.
✨ Pro Tip: Stay patient, eat and hydrated. Your body is adjusting, and every feed counts toward building a healthy milk supply.
The first week sets the tone for your breastfeeding journey. Stay consistent, and remember—you’re doing amazing! 💛
Take a class BEFORE your Babee arrives so you can understand how milk making works! Remember you've got cues to catch and a Babee to latch.
